Elon Musk jokingly suggests OpenAI change name to ‘ClosedAI’ to settle lawsuit
Elon Musk has publicly addressed his legal conflict with OpenAI, and in response the organization has released a blog post detailing Musk’s desire to take full control of the company and his ambitions to step into the CEO role.
Now, in a recent development, Musk has taken another jab at Microsoft-backed OpenAI, announcing that he would withdraw his lawsuit if the company rebranded itself as “ClosedAI.”

Musk, a former OpenAI board member who resigned in 2018, has filed a lawsuit against the organization and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging breach of original contracts related to artificial intelligence. OpenAI countered Musk’s claims, revealing that discussions about a for-profit structure were blocked by Musk’s demand to “merge with Tesla or he wanted full control.”
“We are sharing some facts about our relationship with Elon Musk, and we intend to reject all of his claims,” OpenAI said at X.
To which Musk responded: “Change your name to ClosedAI and I’ll drop the lawsuit.” Furthermore, Musk said that “OpenAI needs to stop living a lie.”
OpenAI is its blog post that had published a detailed account of how the billionaire then wanted majority equity, initial board control, and CEO of OpenAI.
In a blog post, OpenAI provided a comprehensive breakdown of Musk’s demands, including majority ownership, initial board control and a CEO role in the company. “We couldn’t agree on for-profit terms with Elon because we felt it was against the mission for any one person to have full control over OpenAI,” said OpenAI co-founders Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, John Schulman, Sam Altman and Wojciech Zaremba.
